Scattered Light on Daffodil Dreams (close-up)

Scattered Light on Daffodil Dreams is a 5 by 7 inch oil painting that centers on a bouquet of yellow daffodils set in a deep green vase. In this work, I focused on capturing the texture of the petals through broad, soft brushstrokes, emphasizing their fragile, layered quality and the subtle variations in color—from bright yellows to hints of orange within the flower’s trumpets. The vase rests on a surface where scattered petals suggest a fleeting moment, while the background remains muted and understated, allowing the floral arrangement to stand out clearly. This piece was inspired by William Wordsworth’s *Spring Daffodils* and the vivid green of spring grass, which guided my exploration of a surrealist still life—not just a static bouquet, but an imagined extension into a meadow beyond the frame. I aimed to balance realism with an impression of light and space that invites contemplation of both the tangible and the imagined in the everyday.
